The San Joaquin Valley Republican faced an uncertain future because of redistricting.

A San Joaquin Valley Republican who has often sparred with media is leaving Congress at the end of this month to work in the industry.

Tenth-term Rep. Devin Nunes of Tulare is abandoning his seat in the House of Representatives to work for former President Donald Trump's new media company, the San Joaquin Valley Sun reported.

Nunes is accustomed to winning his elections by wide margins but faces an uphill battle in a newly redrawn district identified in draft redistricting maps, according to the Cook Political Report analysis.

The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee was in line to be chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee if Republicans win back the majority in 2022, the Washington Examiner notes.

A vocal Trump supporter, Nunes will begin as CEO of the Trump Media and Technology Group in January, the company announced. The newly formed company plans to launch a social media platform and streaming service.

Nunes has been a fierce critic of some major media and tech companies, having filed defamation suits against Twitter, CNN, the McClatchy Co. and others.
